Wedding illustration for Rebecca and Edmond
My dear friends Edmond and Becca got married recently, and I had the absolute joy and honour of creating a wedding welcome sign for them. They wanted the illustration to depict the moment of their proposal.
the concept and idea
After having a conversation with the lovely couple, I learnt that they wished me to depict the moment of their proposal as authentically as possible. It took place at a meadow significant to them, and they wanted the river and the trees to be visible, as well as the outfits to be ones they actually own and love. I asked for some reference pictures and got to sketching!

I created a few sketches with the couple being posed in various different ways. They happily approved one of them, and I then moved onto the next stage - creating the finalised illustration.

I had originally meant to depict the couple in their meadow during golden hour. They liked the idea, but mentioned that they would like more of the green colour tones of the grass to shine through, as the sunlight made the scene feel very autumnal. I made appropriate corrections and felt much happier with the improved piece myself – sometimes all you need is an outside opinion to create the best work. This experience was a wonderful example of fruitful artist and client collaboration. The couple were thrilled about the result and I might or might not have teared up when I saw them standing by the illustration on their big day.
